Step 2: Check Current Marketing Trends

Now that you know what you have to market, it's time to go to the web and look at current market trends. Why? Because it is important to be on the upside of market trends, not the backside.

All kinds of factors influence the market. For example, one trend in today's US market is the emphasis on home and family, a direct result of 911. Another is high oil prices which influence all sorts of buying decisions, from the vehicles being purchased to the distance traveled on vacation. The large number of working women directly influences the fast food/prepared food markets. Spas/yoga studios are increasingly popular, the result of the trend toward increased hours at work. An aging population results in demand for more health care services, and so on.

Check out the trends that influence your idea. Are you on track with the trends? How will these trends help your business? What should you be aware of that won't help? The answers to these questions will help determine your advertising message, and your audience appeal.
